Today we went to the Whale world discovery centre. Which used to be called the Cheynes Beach Whaling Station. It is were they used to catch and slaughter the whales.
It was sad to see how they used to slaughter the whales. Jesse was not enjoying it as he was getting very upset to hear how they used to kill the whales.
We watched a 3D animation, listen to some audio re enachment of the whalers activities.
We went aboard the Whale Chaser boat that was used to hunt the Whales.
They have on display a skeleton of the last sperm whale they caught.
The operation ceased in 1978.
Sperm Whale skeletonThis is the flensing deck. The flensing deck is where the whales were hauled up and stripped of their blubber. The strips of blubber and the carcass where then hauled to the upper part of
of the cutting up deck built over the cookers.
