Derby

Tuesday 16th September

We arrived at Derby late this afternoon. We were going to stay overnight at Halls Creek as I wanted to go to see Wolfe Creek as in the movie, but it was another 170km drive so we decided against it. We could not be bothered driving 170kms just to see it and come straight back again.

It was the longest we have spent in the car since we left Melbourne. We drove for eight hours today, or should I say David drove for eight hours. It was 40 degrees so it was very hot. It was so hot the front windscreen was hot and the cd’s were getting too hot to play. We are staying here for two nights. It was still very hot when we arrived and this caravan park does not have a pool. We did not do anything once we arrived; we were all very tired..
Monday 15th September

We left Kununurra this morning. We were heading towards El Questro. We got half way along the Gibb River Road and decided to turn around. The road was very rough and we did not want to take the caravan any further.

We then went to have a look at a place called Wyndham.

We ended up driving for quite a few hours and stayed at a place called Turkey Creek at the roadhouse campground overnight.

Lake Argyle

Sunday 14th September

This morning we went to Lake Argyle.

Lake Argyle covers over 1000 square kms. It was formed by the damming of the Ord River. It is Australia’s largest body of fresh water.

Lake Argyle covers and area 18 times the size of Sydney Harbour.
As it is so big, to see it in full you need to do a helicopter flight over it. We probably only saw about 10% of it.

Thursday 11th September

We are actually really looking forward to getting to Western Australia now. We arrived in Katherine today. We collected our mail from the post office. We will stay here just the night and head for WA in the morning. We did our grocery shopping here as it is more expensive in WA.

We are staying at Knotts Crossing Resort, we stayed here last time.

Douglas Daly

Tuesday 9th September

We arrived at Douglas Daly. We are staying at the Douglas Daly Tourist Park.

We went to the Douglas Hot springs today, You could not swim in there as the water was very hot. It can get upto 60 degrees.

We also went to the butterfly gorge for a drive. They had a long walk which we did not do as it was very hot. You actually get a big gorged out after a while.

We are staying here a few days as we are making our way back to Katherine to collect our mail from home.

Litchfield National Park

Sunday 7th September

Today we arrived at Litchfield National Park

We are staying here two nights.

We went to visit the Florence falls and Wangi falls. We swam in the rock pools. It was very refreshing. We went to see Tjaynera falls which you are not allowed to swim in.

It was very busy though as it is the weekend. I think as it is close to Darwin the locals must all come here.
